Bird of Paradise

Bird of Paradise

Acrylic on Canvas

Size: 24 x 48

The Bird of Paradise was my mother’s favorite flower and I never quite understood why. Their petals are rather stiff and waxy to repel the wind and rain and withstand the tropical heat. My personal preference is usually for the soft and delicate flowers. The plant itself always intrigued me since it’s powerful stem produces such a sturdy and spectacular flower. In some way it helps me to understand and put into context how such a strong and brilliant woman could endure the many hardships in her life, but do so with such grace. Even though she was passed now, I feel as though her foundation and strong influence has helped me to grow into the resonant and resilient person that she always hoped I would be.
